2025, Digital print on washi paper with collage, mounted on cradled board, 10×10×1.75”. The edges are painted, and the back is signed, titled, and dated.
This piece began as a manipulated digital photo of my body post surgery and then printed onto delicate washi (a.k.a. Japanese rice paper.) For the exhibition Scrutiny Mutiny, I collaged and embellished the folded and mounted print onto cradled birch panel with feathers collected from my yard, sewn gold thread and a cooked, dried cross section of an onion.
Our bodies bear witness, mark time, keep score of age, illness, trauma. A vessel, temporal, fragile, and still, resilient. What remains, is to be seen–and celebrated.
