Chinese language teacher Kate Dougherty at Newark Charter High School, DE introducing basic terms like paper, fold, glue, scissor to her students.

During this 6 day residency through the Delaware Institute of Arts in Education (DIAE) I am meeting with each class three times for the project. Students are learning simple accordion folds and basic paper engineering to create pop components for their books about themselves, their interests and home life- all in Chinese of course!

Our Pop Up books begin with a simple accordion fold

During my residency two high school teachers from Spain were at the school as part of a cultural exchange and were excited by the possibilities of creating pop ups with their students.

Here is a fun quick video clip sent to me by Santiago de Frutos Perez, one of the teachers .
