Biography
Nanci Hersh is a mixed media artist whose work has been exhibited in Japan, Australia, and throughout the United States including "As She Sees It: 8 Artists" at the Pierro Gallery of South Orange, New Jersey, "Iron Works," curated by John Goodyear, and the 43rd Annual National Print Exhibition at the Hunterdon Museum in New Jersey with her print, Women’s Work, selected for the invitation. Ms. Hersh’s print Birdbath, is included in The Best of Printmaking: An International Collection selected by Lynne Anne and Phyllis McGibbon and published by Rockport Publishers, Inc. 1997. Her etching and aquatint Chrysalis 2 was selected as the image to represent the "Art of Survival- an exhibit by: women artists that have been touched by breast cancer," held annually at Herspace, in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
Ms. Hersh has received numerous awards and honors including three purchase awards from the State Foundation of Culture and the Arts, Hawaii. In addition to the State Foundation of Culture and the Arts, her work is included in the collections of The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, the Honolulu Academy of Arts, as well as in the corporate collections of Johnson & Johnson, Kaiser Permanente, Honolulu Advertiser, Hemmeter Collection, STW Fixed Income Management, Lehigh Portland Cement and numerous private collections.
Ms. Hersh received her M.F.A. in Printmaking from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1994, and her B.F.A. in Drawing from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York in 1981. She has also studied at the Santa Reparata Graphic Art Centre in Florence, Italy.
Her most recent project is illustrator for Butterfly Kisses and Wishes on Wings: When someone you love has cancer... a hopeful, helpful book for kids, written by her cousin Ellen McVicker to help open lines between parents and their children on the topic of cancer. Nanci Hersh lives in Red Bank, New Jersey with her husband and two sons.
